Pathology Stains
I use my art to learn more about the colon and the microscopic breakdown of the pathology of colitis. In Lymphocytic Colitis, tiny lymphocytes invade crypts and the superficial epithelium, encroaching on the territory of other colon tissues and mucosa. Their movement and flow through the tissue, though destructive and inflammatory, shows how easily this delicate balance can be disrupted. By exploring different biopsy staining techniques, I consider how the dyes affect my interpretation of the lymphocytes as either beautifully harmonious or uncomfortably crowded within their environment.
